FLORIDA: Marcus* is a teenager who has been in and out of foster care since he was two-years-old. Until recently, Marcus did not have many family connections. As he grew into a teenager, his caseworker worried about him aging out of the foster care system without a family. Would Marcus face homelessness as he becomes one of the over 20,000 children in foster care that age out every year?
Fortunately, his dedicated caseworker discovered the free family-finding and engagement technology developed by Connect Our Kids. Through our People Search tool, she found many of Marcus’ biologically-related family members and other family friends, including five relative families that are interested in adopting Marcus.
Some of Marcus’ family connections were both surprised and disheartened to hear that he was still in the foster care system after all these years. These people are now a part of Marcus’ life. Because of his caseworker, he has his extended family engaged and they are all interested in his well-being. Marcus no longer has to face the world alone.
