Youth Learns She Has Family That Cares For Her After All

OHIO: Danielle* was fast approaching her 21st birthday. Facing emancipation, she didn’t believe she had any family she could count on. Danielle’s father had been deported when she was very young and she felt alienated by her mother and her side of the family.

When a thoughtful caseworker used Connect Our Kids’ software a paternal aunt was located in another state. The aunt promptly responded to a letter from Danielle, and she shared that it broke her heart when Danielle was taken into permanent custody leaving no means of contact.

Through the phone call with Danielle’s aunt, the caseworker was able to reach out to another paternal aunt who also wanted contact with Danielle. Upon learning about her two aunts, Danielle’s face lit up. Knowing that someone wanted a relationship with her gave her a sense of belonging- something she never had. Danielle is now in the process of establishing a loving and permanent connection with these two aunts.
