KANSAS: We often wonder how our People Search and Family Connections tools are making a difference in the lives of children in foster care and family finding professionals. One user shared a compelling testimony about finding an aunt for a hard-to-place teenager.
“I wanted to let you know from the supervisor/user perspective, we are finding this software to be incredibly helpful in connecting Kansas’ children. On average, we find at least ten times the connections and support we would without dedicated family finding efforts and the usage of Family Connections software.
Just this week, we had a teen coming into our office four days in a row due to placement disruptions. With the help of Family Connections software, we located a paternal aunt who was excited and grateful for the opportunity to have her niece come live with her. As we arrived at the aunt’s house, the teen said, ‘I remember this. I’ve been here before.’ She then turned to me and said, ‘Why didn’t anyone find my family before?’
Those were gut wrenching words to hear. How do you explain to a teen the budget constraints, [the] red tape and [a] difficult-to-navigate system?
I would like to share one of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou, ‘Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.’ Family Connections software, combined with family searching efforts, is how we can do better for children in foster care.”
