VERMONT: Daniel, now a preteen, lives in a residential setting that provides specialized services for children. During his four years in foster care, Daniel has had inconsistent contact from relatives. His Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® (WWK) recruiter from the Lund Family Center began to find people in his extended family. Using the Connect Our Kids tech platform, his recruiter identified 32 connections, one of which was his great-aunt!
“I used to work at DCF and admittedly, I couldn’t understand why a child’s family wasn’t involved. Now, I get it. The state government is intimidating. You need a navigator to get through. But also, DCF workers are operating on little sleep and dealing with crisis on top of crisis… calling a distant relative could easily get lost.”
Thanks to his recruiter’s persistence, Daniel is in the process of being adopted by his great-aunt. She loves him very much and is determined to never lose contact with him again.
