Similar to TED Talks, the OWLS Talks are experiences worth sharing and bring together out-of-the-box thinkers to an audience of fellow military members. This year’s theme was “Leading Innovation and Change in a New Era.”
After graduating from West Point, earning a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, and working at a nuclear weapons lab, Dr. Jacobs went on to serve as a White House Fellow on the National Security Council and later to McKinsey & Co. as a consultant to government and industry. Recently, she separated as a major in the Army Reserves after 16 years of service.
Dr. Jacobs’ OWL Talk focused on how she went from being an Army officer and a nuclear scientist to leading the change in foster care. Connect Our Kids is building software to improve foster care outcomes by collaborating at the intersection of child welfare and innovative technology.
Our software takes an existing, successful approach to finding families for foster kids, and scales it up through technology. And we are giving it away for free. Her Talk centered around how this goal is not as much of a stretch and it might seem and how we can create this path for foster kids throughout the United States.
